Stop guessing what your swing is doing. Trackman 4 measures every parameter of your club and ball at impact, giving your coach the data needed to make faster, more accurate improvements to your game. Available at Scratch Golf Studio, Sunderland Golf Centre.
The technology that changed how golf coaching works, and why it matters to your game
Trackman is a dual-radar launch monitor system that captures precise data on every golf shot. Originally developed from missile-tracking radar technology, it was adapted for golf in the early 2000s and has since become the industry gold standard, used by PGA Tour players, top coaches, major broadcasters, and club fitters worldwide.
Traditional coaching relies on a coach's eye to estimate what a club is doing at impact. That might catch obvious faults, but it can't measure club speed to within 0.1mph, or detect a 1° change in face angle, or confirm exactly what spin rate is causing your ball to curve. Trackman can.
This matters because the difference between a straight shot and a 30-yard slice is often a face angle error of just 2-3°. The naked eye simply can't detect that consistently. Trackman captures it on every single swing, and that data becomes the foundation of everything your coach works on.
At Scratch Golf Studio, we use Trackman 4: the current generation of the system, with dual-radar tracking for maximum accuracy indoors and out. It's the same hardware used at the Ryder Cup, the Masters, and on every PGA Tour range.

Every shot produces data across two categories: what the club does, and what the ball does
These numbers tell a complete story. A few real examples of what the data reveals:
Without data, a coach is estimating. With Trackman, we know exactly what to fix.
Data changes what's possible in a lesson
Trackman isn't just switched on and left running: it shapes every decision in the lesson
When you arrive, you hit a series of shots while Trackman records your current numbers: club speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin, distances, and shot shape. This gives your coach an accurate starting point rather than working from impressions. For returning students, we compare against your previous session data to see how you've progressed.
Your coach reviews the data alongside video of your swing. The Trackman numbers explain exactly why your shots are going where they're going, not just what they look like. A slice, for example, might come from an open clubface, an out-to-in path, or a combination of both. The data tells us which, and by how much, so we target the actual cause rather than guessing.
As you work on changes, Trackman provides real-time feedback on whether the adjustment is working. If we're trying to close your face angle, you can see the face angle number update with each swing. There's no ambiguity. You can feel the change, confirm it in the data, and build confidence that the new swing is producing better numbers.
For each area of your game, we know the optimal Trackman parameters for your ability and goals. Want to break 80? Your driver needs to carry at least 230 yards. Want to maximise your distance? We can identify whether the gain comes from increasing club speed, improving smash factor, or optimising launch conditions, and we prioritise accordingly.
At the end of every Trackman lesson, you receive access to your session data and swing video via our online coaching platform. Review your numbers, rewatch key moments from the lesson, and revisit the practice drills your coach has set, all from your phone or computer, whenever you want.
Trackman adds value at every level, from beginners to scratch players
Learning to play is faster when you understand immediately what you're doing rather than just hitting and hoping. Trackman gives new golfers instant, objective feedback: you can see your launch angle improving, your ball speed increasing, your carry growing, which accelerates learning and keeps motivation high.
This is where Trackman coaching has its most dramatic effect. Most mid-handicappers have ingrained faults that feel normal and that the eye alone can't pinpoint accurately. Trackman reveals the exact numbers behind the fault, making it possible to fix root causes rather than patches, often dropping 4-8 shots off a handicap within a few sessions.
The closer to scratch you get, the smaller the margins. Fine-tuning attack angle by 1°, closing the face by half a degree, or dialling in optimal spin rate for your driver are the kinds of changes that take a very good golfer to the next level. You can't feel improvements this precise. You need Trackman to confirm they're happening.
Want more distance but worried about adding swing speed safely? Trackman shows exactly what's costing you yards, whether that's poor angle of attack, low smash factor, or suboptimal spin rate, and prioritises the quickest wins. Many golfers gain 15-25 yards without swinging harder, simply by optimising their launch conditions.
Want to know which shaft, loft, or lie angle actually suits your swing? Trackman is the definitive tool for custom fitting. We measure how your data changes with different equipment so every fitting decision is backed by evidence, not sales pitch. See our Club Fitting page for full details.
If you've had lessons before and not improved, Trackman coaching is often the answer. Previous coaching may have targeted the wrong thing. With Trackman data, your coach can see the actual cause of your problems, not just the symptom, and address it directly. Many golfers who'd given up on improving find real breakthrough moments with data-led coaching.
Trackman isn't just for lessons. We also use it for custom club fitting: measuring exactly how your ball data changes with different shafts, lofts, and heads. The right equipment, fitted with Trackman data, can add distance and consistency without changing your swing.

Not at all. Trackman works for complete beginners just as well as experienced golfers. For new players, it provides instant, objective feedback that accelerates the learning process. For experienced golfers, it identifies the precise root cause of faults that have been hard to fix.
Absolutely. Your coach will explain exactly what the numbers mean and which ones matter for your game. You don't need to understand every parameter. We focus on the 4-5 most relevant to what you're working on and explain them in plain English. Most golfers are surprised by how quickly the key numbers start to make intuitive sense.
Yes. All your Trackman session data and swing videos are uploaded to your personal account on our online coaching platform after every lesson. You can review them at any time, on your phone, tablet, or computer, and compare your numbers across sessions to see how your game is progressing.
Trackman 4 is widely considered the industry benchmark for accuracy. It uses dual radar, with one tracking the club and one tracking the ball, which is more accurate than single-radar or camera-based alternatives, particularly in indoor environments. It is the system of choice for PGA Tour players, major broadcasters, and most leading coaches globally.
Our Trackman studio is at Scratch Golf Studio, Sunderland Driving Range, Sunderland Golf Centre, Newcastle Road, Sunderland, SR5 1JT. We are easily accessible from Newcastle, Gateshead, and across Tyne and Wear. Free parking is available on site. Visit our Find Us page for directions and a map.
